bejing gcp 2012 part 1
December 2, 2012
long time no see folks!i should be doing my math worksheet now but i wanna exercise (my fingers) so here i am updating my blog. i should be ashamed of myself because i wanted to update immediately after im back from beijing but because im such a lazy worm i cannot even bring myself to do anything. so agenda of today's blog post will be about how you can dance like a butterfly and knock your head on the wall but not die. okay maybe not. but if you wanna knock your head on the wall and not die, just put tofu all over the wall. i haven't really tried but i think it helps idk. okay, the real agenda for today's post: beijing trip. :-) so yeah beijing trip. yeah 14 days long. honestly i thought it was gonna be a very long trip but no. the moment i get used to living there, it's time to come back. very sad, i miss that place badly. had the time of my life there with my friends, so fun! :D we really did a lot of dumb things. the weather's there really good and the 2nd night we were there, we got complained cos we were talking too loudly in the room! okay shall go from day to day. (i am ultra distracted and im looking through my fb news feed from time to time and it's making me feel very worried for life) (and hold on i need to grab my GCP booklet to refer to where we went and what we did) day 1: plane ride! :D so i was sitting next to clara in the plane and next to clara was yuanzhen. cheers to my ship. and being an annoying passenger, i think i pissed all the air stewardesses off. clara and i have extremely short attention spans so we ended up learning korean. and i gave up after a while so we asked for a colouring book. mature kids. i am quite sure i got judged but it's okay, we had fun. and well, i managed to watch step up revolution. it's quite a good show and the great dancers in there make me feel very sad and depressed. so we headed off to the school dorm after that and the chefs there prepared yummy dinner for us. they cook really good food! :) so yeah, that's my first day in beijing for you. and i saw snow for the very first time! no not experience snow but just saw snow on the ground because the snow stopped before we landed. oh and there was this super friendly lady at the immigration who kept asking me where we came from and what not. oh and hazel and i moved our beds because we are that mafan. sad story: no wifi in the room! D: day 2: omg thank god i took photos so now im just gonna refer back to them all to remember what i did there. so monday morning, we got a tour around school! :) bazhong's a really beautiful school and they have really cool facilities there- swimming pool, super high class science labs, etc. so yeah we toured the school and the most memorable place will probably be the field! someone built a snowman there and since i can't fulfill my wish of building a snow man i just had to take a photo with the one there. so yeah we were taking a lot of photos and i think the teacher got kinda impatient cos we had to tour other places around the school. anyway before i continue ranting here's a photo of us on the field: oh and we saw some of the science projects the students did and apparently that can help them gain points when the apply for uni in beijing? how come singapore don't have this kind of system boohoo. the corridors in the school look like those in korean dramas! i don't have a good photo of it so too bad. so morning we had school tour and had our lunch at 11am. beijing has very different meal times compared to singapore. we eat lunch there at 11am and dinner at 5pm. after lunch we had to attend this super boring bio lecture IN CHINESE. i swear i couldn't understand a single thing and i was falling asleep. and then we got the chance to do some high class bio experiment and got to wear cool lab coats. it was really quite cool but because im so sucky i think i wasted a lot of their equipment and my experiment probably got contaminated anyway. this is what it's supposed to look like if it's not contaminated btw:
(quite professional looking right!)
so yeah had dinner at 5pm. i think we went out to parksons supermarket at night, im not sure i forgot. anyway parksons is this shopping mall near our dorm and there's a supermarket at the basement so we go there to get our supply of pocky! china sells all different flavours of pocky! and i managed to facetime my sisters at night, before going to bed.
day 3: first few days of the trip's pretty much slack everyday. we had some 水墨画 lessons in the morning. the super artistic me (yeah i wish) drew something super awful. but the teacher was nice so he didn't say anything insulting. and then we had time to plan for alice day before heading off for lunch. managed to find some time after lunch to wonder around the school a little so we went to the field and did stupid things there. we do stupid things everywhere we go. and we tried jump shots and that was where esther's gangnam style shot came from! and shuli and becca got called 美女s by the guys playing football at the field! we had lessons about china's places of interest by a geog teacher from their school after that and then dinner! after dinner yanglaoshi agreed to bring us around for a walk so we went to nearby shopping malls and streets. oh and we went to this super high class shopping mall which sells all kinds of branded stuff and we were all literally like "why the heck are we here?" managed to walk over to 西单after that and we went over to this 韩国城 place. quite a lot of things to buy there but the shop keepers there are too scary. walked quite a distance back to the dorm after that. tired legs. :(
(this is getting a bit tiring and im not even there omg)
day 4: probably one of the slackest days. we had 文化课 in the morning and it was so boring!! D: they were talking about the history of beijing and all, i was blanking out after a while. so after that we went to some 批发市场to shop there. not much to get there. but i managed to get some cheapo notebooks and pens there. oh and a neck pillow which only cost me S$4 so yeah, quite satisfied. scary hazel got a hulk hand! D: she had a lot of problems packing it in after that LOL. had a lot of time at night and we were not allowed to go out anymore hazel and i explored the school with vanessa and rebecca. haha we took a lot of zipais at the field. (the school's really our favourite place in school man). the sky in china turns dark super early!! hazel and i managed to facetime sueyu (who was in shanghai) in the night and yeah happy day for everyone! :)
day 5: we finally went to school and met our buddies. our buddies are super nice but hazel's buddy's sometimes a bit creepy. oh and the nice school principal decided that our rooms are too dry so he got us a plant in every room. nice principal. :) so yeah roamed the school at night again and went back to the field. i think we played "what time is it mr wolf" and we played a prank on rebecca! HAHAH fun times!
day 6: ALICE DAY \o/ funnest day of the trip. anyway special thanks to the super nice librarian who really helped us! so yeah, we decided to be ultra adventurous and went all the way to 香山and 清华大学. the train was quite packed when we left and we were literally like squashed pancakes. you don't need to hold onto anything also won't fall one. and their train has this mini TV at the side, i guess it's to keep lame people like me entertained. our journey there was quite smooth and we didn't leave anyone behind. :) 香山 is a beautiful place, it was quite crowded but because we didn't take the main route up it wasn't as crowded. oh and yuanzhen played the guzheng there! :D haha perfect atmosphere for a guzheng performance. oh and apparently we look like koreans! we got mistaken for koreans (and people from all different parts of the world)! saw some red leaves there:
(hehe one of my favourite photos of the trip)
did a lot of crazy things like sing 山歌while climbing! :D (told ya we do stupid things everywhere we go!) we stayed there till like 12? ate 冰糖葫芦before we left! took us quite a while to find the bus interchange but we managed to eventually because we're cool like that. and off we go to 清华大学!
best experience ever. so we managed to find our way there and guess what, visitors are not allowed inside, yay! scary looking guards were at the main gate and stopping everyone who attempts to go in. apparently you'll need to present some card to be allowed inside and obviously we do not have it. then some creepy uncle and aunty came up to us and told us that they can sneak us in if we pay 10 bucks each. and obviously we are bright kids who were not dumb enough to believe them. and because we haven't eaten lunch, we tried walking around to find food. sorry but all the shops there looked really bad and the closest fast food restaurant was inside 清华! D: problematic! desperate us became smarter and tried sneaking in again. before i continue, thank you sg government for training us to be bilingual kids! so smart us came up with a smart plan. we were gonna pretend we can't speak chinese at all and when the guards ask us to present cards, we're gonna pretend we don't understand what they're talking about. yeah it worked and we got in! hazel and vanessa tried first. while the rest of us waited patiently across the road. when the guard stopped them our hearts literally fell to rock bottom, and then the next moment we saw them strolling in omg. so yeah the rest of us tried and i went in rebecca. funniest thing ever! i think the guard got pissed off with us after a while and his partner guard was just like "新加坡来的" so yeah they kinda figured out our plan but let us in anyway cos we looked too innocent! :D
it's like a totally different place inside! and we were all super fascinated by everything inside! and of course we were not gonna leave the place without getting souvenirs!took us a super long time to find this place so i just had to snap a photo to show you we made it there! everyone was giving us different directions it wasn't even funny anymore! poor us didn't had time for lunch so we practically skipped lunch for that day. haha how ironic, we even wanted to focus on food for our alice day! xD yeah we reached back a little late but we weren't the latest group so kudos to us! :> oh and we went to parksons to get our supply of pocky again before heading back to the dorm. went back dead tired but really satisfied and happy! :D just fyi, 清华's toilet's not exactly as impressive as the school itself. day 7: start of tour! we headed to some 博物馆 in the morning. the museum's honestly quite boring! :( the rest of the day was spent at 圆明园 and 颐和园. sad thing: it was pouring and it made the whole day gloomy and sad! :( had some fun walking under the rain and getting lost with juneyu at 圆明园 though. :) 颐和园's quite a nice place but because it was raining we only stayed for a little while! :< day 8 onwards will happen in the next blog post. honestly i don't even think anyone will bother reading all my crap but i guess it's more like something for me to note down all the happenings in beijing so maybe 80 years down the road, when i become an old ah ma, i can read what i wrote right here and miss all my friends. |
